AI and the Graphic design Industry

We all know about the influential force of AI that has entered our lives in recent years, currently taking over many aspects of companies and products. AI, or artificial intelligence, is extremely helpful in many ways, such as making many tasks more efficient, and moving industries forward in innovation. However, the concern about AI taking over jobs is something very real we are currently facing today. This connects to the graphic design industry, which uses digital software to create images used often for companies and advertising. With AI being so present in the working sphere, the question is raised: will AI kill the graphic design industry?

Some ways in which AI is helpful towards graphic design are making small tasks within creating designs much more efficient, and overall being helpful for the workplace as a whole. For example, AI allows graphic designers to easily do things like remove backgrounds, resize images, or generate template variations from their designs. It can even help generate design ideas or variations on them which can help make selling products with unique designs faster and more efficient. In addition, AI can assist with better communication for designers and quality control. This tool doesn’t have to be viewed in a menacing way by the design world, because designers have the ability work together with AI to do things they may have not even thought of before.

Even so, there are cons to how AI impacts the graphic design sphere. When designers use AI to aid in creating their designs, there can be negative impacts such as lack of emotion or cultural sensitivity, which can make designs less appealing to people. Also, there are many ethical concerns that come with AI helping to create designs. Since AI uses existing images to create new ones, this could lead to copyright infringement or intellectual property issues. This is why it is important for designers to responsibly use AI as it could lead to originality and copyright issues. Or, this could lead designers to not want to use AI at all in aiding with design creation.

All of this leads to the question of how AI will impact the industry itself, and the careers that come with graphic design. Companies may be able to use AI for simpler or more tedious tasks to aid in design creation, or they could actually use AI to create advertisements and logos. There is of course a fear of design teams being replaced by AI in companies, and having their jobs taken over. However, it is difficult for AI to create original content on its own. Humans are necessary for creating things like logo designs, because companies or brands want to communicate something through designs or advertisements, like emotions and connection to the user. As this is a vital part of design itself, AI will likely play a big role in design, but in the end work together with humans to create.

In conclusion, although we don’t know whether or not AI will end up replacing graphic design jobs in the future, at least for right now, we are heading towards more of an integration with human work and AI. Graphic designers will be able to use AI as a tool to help make their designs even better, with AI likely becoming increasingly common in many areas of work. They will also have to be aware of its limits and risks, like copyright. To answer the initial question, AI will probably not kill the graphic design industry, as humans are vital to the core of graphic design itself, something difficult for AI to completely replace.
